In the critical transition period where revolutionary changes in motorsport will be included, tests are being prepared with new rules for the MotoGP calendar. The new regulations involve significant changes to engine and chassis technologies.
New Technical Regulations
The new era of MotoGP begins with the reduction of engines from 1000cc to 850cc. Including these changes, all systems affecting traction on the bikes (including varying ride heights) are eliminated, and aerodynamic features are reduced. Furthermore, a change in tire manufacturer is noteworthy; a switch from Michelin to Pirelli will take place.
2027 Test Schedule Details
In preparation for the new season, the 2027 MotoGP calendar has been determined in advance. One of the first tracks where teams will test their new motorcycles will be in Valencia. Following the final race of the 2026 season, a one-day official season finale test will be held on December 1st at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. During this test, riders will be on the track with their new colors and 850cc engines.
Pre-Season Tests
Pre-season tests will be organized in different formats. A Shakedown test for test riders and new riders will take place on January 29th and 30th at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Following this, the official Sepang test, valid for all competitors, will be held between January 31st and February 1st at the Sepang circuit. No break will be taken between these two-day tests.
Thailand and Moto Classes
Following the tests, the motorcycles will be transported to Thailand. A second pre-season test will be held at Buriram on February 6th and 7th. Due to tensions in the Middle East, the first race of the 2027 season will take place from March 5th to 7th at the Thailand Grand Prix. This first race will feature the new 850cc prototypes on track.
Separate test programs have also been determined for the Moto2 and Moto3 classes. Both private and official tests will be conducted for Moto2 riders, while Moto3 competitors must pass an official test. Official tests for Moto2 will take place at the Circuit de Jerez: Private tests on February 16th and 17th, and official tests on February 20th and 21st.
Important Dates
The launch of the 2027 MotoGP season will take place on February 21st in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This event will also be a beach party.
