Yamaha Rider Quartararo in Accident Still Makes Q2: "I Was Lucky Today"

4 min read · 4 views

Monster Energy Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo managed to qualify directly into Q2 after a high-speed crash during the Yamaha GP on Friday. Following the incident during the practice session, the rider jumped off the motorcycle and fell. In the afternoon practice session, he finished seventh with a lap time of 1:29.558 and entered the top 10. Our pride, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, completed the same session in 16th place.

The Rider's Feelings After the Crash

Fabio Quartararo expressed the pain he experienced after the crash. The rider spoke in a humorous way about waking up in pain for the next sessions.

My left side hurts a bit. The fall was fast, but it wasn't a big fall. The worst part was hitting the ground. Fortunately, none of my bones broke, just muscle soreness. That's why I could get up and ride the bike again, but I will wake up in pain tomorrow.

###Risk of Impact and Precautions

A comment was made about the potential risks of such falls in Mandalika. The Yamaha rider emphasized that a precaution should be taken in the area where the crash occurred.

Yes, it was like that for Marc last year. I was lucky today because the fall was not one of those spectacular falls. But when I hit the ground... there is a very big difference at that point. They need to do something for that area.

###Performance in Practice and Tire Change

The positive aspect of Quartararo's Friday was qualifying into Q2. The Yamaha rider tried two fast laps immediately after the crash on the track. The French rider stated that he felt good on the bike and that the tires were better than last year's.

Frankly, doing two fast laps immediately after such a fall and getting back on the bike is not the best way to get on the bike, but I actually felt quite good. The tires look definitely better than last year's, especially since the middle compound tires, which usually take a long time to warm up, are warming up much faster this year. The feeling on the bike is good, and there isn't much camber here, which was also helpful.

###Team Members and Performance Perception

The ranking of other riders in the practice session was as follows: Raul Fernandez took the top spot with 1:28.725, Marco Bezzecchi second, and Jorge Martin third. Quartararo's teammate Alex Rins finished in 11th place, and could not get into Q2 by only 0.090 seconds. Prima Pramac Yamaha rider Jack Miller was 12th. The French rider stated he did not know why other Yamahas looked faster. He also added that there were shortcomings in grip and cornering on the bike.

I don't know. Last Friday, the three of us, as Yamaha riders, were in the top 10. This happened only at Silverstone and here. Frankly, I don't know the reason. Personally, I feel good on the bike. I saw that the pace was good, so I pushed a little harder. But I couldn't get that extra performance out. Still, overall the feeling was good. There were shortcomings in grip and cornering, but we definitely had much worse races and feelings.

###Toprak Razgatlıoğlu's Result

Our pride, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, completed the practice session in 16th place with a lap time of 1:30.152. Toprak, who came with a better lap time at the end of the practice session, slowed down due to the yellow flag and could not improve his position. Our representative finished just 0.001 seconds behind Fermin Aldeguer in 15th place and was 0.366 seconds away from the Q2 limit. Teammate Miller was 0.269 seconds ahead of our pride. Our representative had completed the first practice session in 15th place.
