Aprilia, secured the first four places in the long race with the Aprilia RS-GP motorcycle for the first time at Mandalika, resulting in a more positive outcome than initially appeared in the Indonesian MotoGP Ducati camp. Heavy losses were felt in the Ducati camp on Sunday. However, when looking at the championship standings, Marc Marquez started two points behind Jorge Martin by the weekend, and was separated by the same margin from the Lombok Island. Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi stated that even losing approximately 10 points on a track where it did not suit the characteristics of Marc Marquez and the Desmosedici GP would still be a good result.
Ducati and Championship Standings
After the race, Davide Tardozzi emphasized the importance of focusing on the results in his statement to Sky Sport MotoGP.
If we only look at the results, being two points behind here and then being two points behind again is a success for us. But the real problem is obvious: Aprilia showed that it is clearly superior to us. We knew this would be the case on this track, but we hoped the difference would be smaller. That is the reality.
Comments were made regarding the potential of subsequent races on this track.
The next tracks will show better. Phillip Island will be important, in particular. Frankly, Aprilia can provide an advantage there, as there are fast and long corners requiring high grip in maximum lean angles.
Evaluations on the overall championship situation and race progress were shared.
We will see. If we can defend ourselves there, I think the championship is still completely manageable. We need to race forward; there are still 185 points to be gained.
Additionally, the approaches of Ducati riders regarding motorcycle development were addressed.
Motorcycle Development Debates
Davide Tardozzi evaluated the claims regarding Marc Marquez's motorcycle development.
I cannot decide what to do in my team. They are completely right in giving instructions to their own riders. Or rather, they will do it, because I have no doubt that it is correct and logical to me. I would do it myself, this is very clear.
Davide Tardozzi shared his observations on how Ducati riders develop their own motorcycles.
However, in the periods when we competed against our own riders in the past, we showed that we always gave all the support we could to the riders in our reserve team. It was natural for us to keep all our riders on the same line without any distinction. Here, they are competing against another manufacturer.
The strong representation of Ducati in the world championship standings and Marc Marquez's position in this matter were addressed.
The only reason for the situation to be like this is the presence of all Aprilia riders ahead of them. Furthermore, I do not agree with those who say that Marc Marquez directs the development of his motorcycle according to his riding style. This is incorrect.
Davide Tardozzi shared his observations on the motorcycle development processes.
I have seen firsthand what is added to the motorcycle and what decisions other riders make. Therefore, it is not certain that Marquez has made his motorcycle according to his preference. This is tavern talk.
The knowledge and experience of those involved in motorcycle development were emphasized.
Those who participate in motorcycle development know very well what is done for them and what they try for other riders. For example, we did work for Pecco, but it did not yield the desired result. It is possible that each rider has their own preferences.
We always have the possibility and the ability to develop for each rider individually. It does not mean that everyone must use the same motorcycle because it suits Marquez well. For example, Pecco uses a different engine configuration than Marc. For a long time, he used a different suspension aerodynamics than Marc. Every rider in the factory team has the possibility to make their own choices. This includes Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio.
Davide Tardozzi concluded with a general assessment.
We do not think that making a motorcycle for Marc Marquez will benefit everyone. The situation is definitely not like that.
