Yamaha Becomes the Supplier for Moto3

MotoGP and Yamaha have officially announced a major partnership agreement that will be valid between 2028 and 2033, establishing Yamaha as the motorcycle supplier for the FIM Moto3 World Championship. This long-term project aims not only to maintain the highest levels of competition but also to support the development of young talent and increase accessibility to motorsport.

Next-Generation Racing Prototype and Technical Approach

At the center of this strategic initiative is a new racing prototype redesigned for Grand Prix, based on Yamaha's CP2 production platform, which has not yet proven its worth. The design of this full-sized motorcycle has been prepared to offer a higher power-to-weight ratio compared to existing Moto3 machines. This innovative approach aims to ensure better compatibility with the physical structures and riding styles of next-generation riders.

These technical adjustments made for the development of this motorcycle aim not only to increase performance but also to provide a safer and more suitable riding environment for young racers. This marks a concrete step toward the development of the sport.

A Global Platform is Being Built

The project timeline is ambitious. The motorcycles will begin testing this year, be officially introduced in 2027, and take their place on the tracks in the 2028 season. This partnership will not be limited to the main championship. Starting from 2029, it will transform into a global platform used in other regional championships, including the Moto3 Junior World Championship. This move clearly demonstrates a vision to expand the ecosystem of motorcycle sport.

Sporting Director Carlos Ezpeleta expressed great pride in recognizing the future of Moto3 with this important step. Ezpeleta emphasized their commitment to increasing accessibility to grow the sport, support talent, and create the safest environment for the widest audience.

Ezpeleta stated that they have not just chosen a motorcycle with Yamaha; they have built a global platform for young riders. He added that this represents the first professional stepping stone for future superstars of Moto3 and a meeting point for fans to encounter these stars. He expressed that the unique excitement offered by the three-class racing format will further highlight pure talent and engineering excellence in this new era.

Goals Beyond Performance

Paolo Pavesio, General Manager of Yamaha Motor Racing, stressed that Moto3 is always the beginning of a Grand Prix dream, a place where future champions learn, and where talent first comes to light. Pavesio stated that their goals are not merely about producing a motorcycle.

He explained that they are creating a platform that combines accessibility with high racing performance, supporting riders, teams, and champions for many years. He affirmed that this initiative is a global effort uniting the expertise of Yamaha Motor Co., Yamaha Motor Racing, and Yamaha Motor Europe. Pavesio concluded by stating that this move is the most concrete reflection of Yamaha's long-term and rooted commitment to motorcycle racing and developing future riders.
