Fabio Quartararo stated that he did not have a strong desire to develop his Yamaha motorcycle in the 2026 season. The French rider expressed that he wanted to participate in tests in Austria but did not want Yamaha to use Pirelli tires on track.
Testing Policy
Quartararo presented a clear approach regarding participation in testing before the new season. The French rider emphasized that working only with drivers in the team for the upcoming season was a natural preference when speaking to L'Equipe magazine.
I don't know if I have permission to say this, but I will say it: I wanted to participate in the tests in Austria. But it is too bad that Yamaha does not want to put Pirelli tires on the track.
This approach showed that other manufacturers in the grid are making similar decisions. For example, Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura will not test the Aprilia, Francesco Bagnaia will not test the Ducati, and Pedro Acosta will not test the KTM.
Team Structure and New Era
Quartararo and Yamaha are going through a challenging period in the 2026 season. The French rider, who scored 55 points in the World Championship standings, achieved his best result of the year fifth in the Catalunya GP.
The new season will mark the beginning of a new era for both sides. Yamaha will continue competing with the pair of Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura in the main team. The Blue team's reserve will feature Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and Izan Guevara.
Exemplary Rider
Massimo Meregalli, who criticized Quartararo's approach, cited Australian rider Jack Miller as an example, saying:
Fabio needs to take Jack as an example. Miller always shows everything he has on track, and he manages to keep everyone in the garage morale high even when things get difficult.
