The injury season before MotoGP drew attention to the physical problems experienced by Spanish rider Fermin Aldeguer and the condition of teammate Alex Marquez. Aldeguer continued the pain from fractures and post-operative recovery throughout the season.

Aldeguer's Physical Struggle

Fermin Aldeguer went to the operating table to reduce the pain in his left leg before the intense overseas racing schedule of MotoGP. The Spanish rider broke his left femur in an accident while training in Valencia before the season started. Due to this injury, Aldeguer missed all pre-season tests and the opening race in Buriram. Later, a T7 fracture in Assen caused the second major setback, preventing the young rider from competing in two races over two weeks. During this period, he had to contend with the pain caused by metal fragments in his leg. Aldeguer admitted in a statement in early September that it would be difficult for him to be completely physically ready during the 2026 season.

I do not think it is possible to be 100% fit this season.

Aldeguer stated that the real solution would be the complete removal of the metal fragments in his leg. Furthermore, the doctor had comments regarding the post-operative pain.

Perhaps after having surgery to remove all the metal, the doctor said that 90% of the pain would pass.

His team confirmed that one of the screws in his left leg was removed during the operation performed on Wednesday. The timing of the operation is drawing attention in terms of the MotoGP calendar. The Japanese Grand Prix will take place in Motegi from October 2-4, and an intense period of six consecutive overseas races for the championship will begin. Aldeguer aimed to reduce his leg pain before this demanding race series by using the last free week in Europe for the operation. There is no information suggesting that Aldeguer will miss the Japanese Grand Prix.

Alex Marquez's Operation Plan

Teammate Alex Marquez is also expected to undergo a new operation at the end of the season. Marquez, who suffered a serious fracture of the collarbone in a crash in Catalonia, stated in Misano that he would have the collarbone plate removed periodically and aimed to be fully ready for the 2027 season. Alex Marquez will compete in the factory KTM team next season.

Next Season Plans

Fermin Aldeguer will remain with Ducati in the 2027 season but will move to the VR46 team. Alex Marquez will compete in the factory KTM team next season. Aldeguer's current goal is to enter the intense overseas race series starting in Japan in the best possible physical condition. It is expected that a more comprehensive process to remove the metal fragments in his left leg will continue during the winter, and the last operation has been taken as a first step to reduce the prolonged pain.
