In the MotoGP season, Fabio Quartararo, continuing with Yamaha](/bikes/yamaha-r1), faced technical difficulties and adaptation requirements during the transition to his new motorcycle. As the French rider begins his new chapter, the technical change of the motorcycle and its adaptation to new tires are of critical importance.
Technical Challenges of the New Era
Fabio Quartararo has focused all his attention on the new chapter that will begin with Honda. The rider is expected to make his first official test on the Valencia circuit on December 1st with the RC-V. The purpose of this test is to end the prolonged poor performance of the 2021 World Champion.
The severance of the connection with Yamaha has been building tension between the two parties for months. Yamaha refused to allow the French rider to test Pirelli tires during the race scheduled for September 21st at the Spielberg circuit for the Austrian GP. This situation announced that Yamaha would no longer support the motorcycle development process in any way to the public. Our representative, Toprak Razgatlıoğlu, will undertake the task of testing the 850cc Yamaha prototype with Pirelli tires and providing technical data to the Japanese engineers, Izan Guevara.
The transition from a four-cylinder block to a V4 engine was a challenging process for both Quartararo and Yamaha. It will take time to get used to the new motorcycle and the technical team. The rider expressed this process with the following words:
I did not change the brand last year, but this is a completely different motorcycle. And I had to adapt. I had to change my riding style. The same thing will happen next year. Of course, I will use different tires. Therefore, this is something we need to learn.
Performance and Psychological Adaptation
The new era starting in the MotoGP arena requires riders not only to adapt to the 850cc prototypes but also to adapt to the Pirelli tires, which will be used for the first time after Michelin. The rider emphasized the importance of the technical aspects of the motorcycle's performance.
Quartararo highlighted the importance of the motorcycle's technical aspects, stating, "No, this is also very important here," and stressed that the overall performance of the engine is critical, even if he falls behind in the starting position. When falling behind in the start, a genius emphasizes that the engine's performance is important everywhere.
Pressure to Win and the Necessity of Learning
Fabio Quartararo stated that he does not expect to win immediately in the new era. The rider stressed that he needs to learn and adapt to be fast. He indicated that it will be a day when he needs to understand his weaknesses and what he needs to improve during the winter.
The rider said the following about his motivation and dreams:
I do not expect to win immediately. To be fast, I need to learn, adapt, and try to bring the motorcycle's performance to the highest level as quickly as possible.
The rider also shared his views on coping with difficult situations. The rider explained his approach to difficult moments as follows:
You never get used to difficult moments. If you cannot achieve what you want, it is always frustrating. It doesn't matter that we know that our package is not at the level we would like. I am competitive myself, and I want to fight. If I didn't care about this, I wouldn't want to race anymore. That is why I sometimes get too invested and my frustration is too great. I just have to say the right things at the right time.
The rider stated that he needs to use gentler language in some situations, saying, "I must express myself more kindly to you."
Regarding Yamaha, it is expected that this long and difficult season will be completed. While verbal tension persists between the parties, the possibility of cancellation before the contract expires remains on the table.
