The tension between Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha has escalated to a new level following the Aragon Grand Prix. The Japanese manufacturer reacted sharply to the French rider’s statement that he would no longer contribute to Yamaha’s motorcycle development efforts after the 2026 season, preparing to switch to Honda. Yamaha management argued that Quartararo’s approach was "somewhat detached from objectivity," while Team Manager Massimo Meregalli indicated a preference for basing decisions on the riders who will be in the team next season by announcing the testing program in Austria.
Quartararo’s Demand for Technical Contribution
Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 MotoGP World Champion, stated that he would no longer assist in Yamaha’s motorcycle development work. One of the main reasons for this decision was Yamaha’s refusal to allow Quartararo to test Pirelli tires on the M1 during the upcoming test at the Austrian Grand Prix.

Meregalli also announced Yamaha’s testing program in Austria. He stated that Yamaha plans to include national rider Toprak Razgatlıoğlu and likely Izan Guevara in the 2027 MotoGP lineup.
