Who will be Quartararo's teammate at Honda?

3 min read · 4 views

The transfers of Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso for the 2027 MotoGP driver lineup were confirmed in July. The multi-year contracts with Diogo Moreira and Johann Zarco were also secured. It was clarified that former world champion Quartararo will move to the factory team HRC, while experienced rider Zarco will remain with the satellite team LCR. However, which seats Moreira and Alonso will occupy has not been finalized. It was stated that the announcement is expected in the coming days. It is predicted that Moreira's factory team will move to HRC, while Alonso will secure a factory-backed motorcycle guarantee on the LCR side.

New Team Assignments

Diogo Moreira is attracting attention for the performance he showed during the rookie season. Moreira appears to have secured the factory seat with the podium he achieved in the Moto3 sprint race and the fast laps he set in the 850cc/Pirelli tests at the Red Bull Ring. David Alonso, who finished fifth in the championship, had a race disqualification in the Indonesian race due to a teammate and the first corner contact with Dani Holgado, the other rookie of 2027.

Team Structure and Competitive Dynamics

Cal Crutchlow made a clear stance in his statement during the official MotoGP broadcast in Aragon regarding who should take the factory seat. Crutchlow stated that he definitively earned the seat before Moreira, from David Alonso. Furthermore, Crutchlow emphasized that he has a year of experience and has managed to consistently overtake other Honda riders during the rookie season. He expressed that this is a decision that must be made without hesitation.

Differences Between Motorcycles

Cal Crutchlow commented on the differences between the motorcycles. He stated that there is no difference between the bikes, and the only advantage is having less pressure over the lead. However, he mentioned that different parts might be tested, but all of them are already factory contracts. Crutchlow stated that the meaning of this is that one is racing for the factory team, and the other for the satellite team. Furthermore, looking at today's MotoGP, he emphasized that essentially every team operates like a factory team. On the other hand, information was shared that Joan Mir moving to Ducati from the current HRC riders, and Luca Marini will be included in the Tech3 KTM lineup.

Statements

He has a year of experience behind him and has succeeded in consistently overtaking other Honda riders during the rookie season. Therefore, in my opinion, it is a decision that must be made without hesitation.

On the other side of the issue, David Alonso moving to LCR would be a perfect scenario, just like Diogo gaining experience in MotoGP.

There is no difference between the motorcycles; the only advantage is having less pressure over the lead. Of course, different parts can be tested, but all of them are already factory contracts.

In that sense, there is no real difference. You are saying that one is racing for the factory team, and the other for the satellite team.

When you look at today's MotoGP, essentially every team operates like a factory team.
