MotoGP legend Loris Capirossi is officially declared a MotoGP icon due to the achievements he has achieved throughout his career. During his 20-year career, Capirossi competed in 29 GP victories and 99 podium finishes.

MotoGP Group CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta expressed his feelings during the ceremony honoring Loris Capirossi for his success. Ezpeleta emphasized that honoring Loris holds personal significance and described the moment as a major one. Ezpeleta stressed that Loris played a role in many areas throughout his career, starting from his first World Championship title to improving safety standards. Ezpeleta stated that Loris is not just a great racer, but a fantastic character of the MotoGP family.
For me, it is an exceptionally personal matter and a great moment to honor Loris. I had the great fortune to experience his entire career live – from his first World Championship race in Jarama to today in his role as an important part in improving safety standards within MotoGP. Loris is more than a great rider – he is part of the MotoGP family and a fantastic character.
Personal Feelings and Thanks
Capirossi, the MotoGP World Champion, openly expressed his feelings while accepting the honor. He stated that this honor was a moment he could not have imagined and receiving it was an emotional moment. Capirossi emphasized that the people who make up MotoGP are those whom he has experienced and valued over such many years.
What a moment – I never imagined this and now to receive this honor is a particularly emotional moment. I want to thank everyone here, because these are the people who make up MotoGP, and those whom I have been able to experience and appreciate for so many years.
Furthermore, Capirossi expressed his desire to dedicate himself to his family. He stated that this honor is the most important thing for his father, mother, brother, spouse, and son. Capirossi expressed that his career being possible was only made possible by a strong family.

MotoGP legend Capirossi expressed his thanks to the manufacturers who supported him throughout his career. Capirossi stated that Honda made his first championships possible, Aprilia gave him fantastic 250cc engines, and Yamaha secured victories in the 500cc class. He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to win in MotoGP with Ducati, to compete for the World Championship with Desmosedici, and to celebrate his last podium in MotoGP with Suzuki.
