Aprilia rider Jorge Martin finished 10th in the Misano race, securing a direct move into Q2 on Sunday. The Spanish rider assesses that he is not far behind teammate Marco Bezzecchi in terms of race pace. Martin did not view his overall performance negatively.
Soft Tire Issues
During the race, Jorge Martin pointed out the problems the motorcycle experienced with the tires. Martin stated that while he showed a strong performance on the middle tire during the morning session, the motorcycle's behavior changed when switched to the soft tire in the afternoon. He mentioned that this problem had also appeared during practice laps at the beginning of the season.
Martin believes the situation in the race pace is more hopeful. The Spanish rider claimed that the gap was not significant and that if certain details were worked on, they could approach the podium.
“I have mixed feelings. I felt very good on the middle tire this morning. The motorcycle was very strong and everything worked as I wanted it to. I was very close to the top positions and I felt great.”
Competition Analysis
Martin admitted that Marco Bezzecchi looked slightly stronger in terms of race pace. However, he emphasized that the gap in race pace was not very large. The Spanish rider stated that his teammate gained an advantage in almost all corners, noting that the total difference was approximately one quarter.
Martin compared himself to Marco Bezzecchi, saying he lost slightly in almost all corners and that he needed to focus more on the details.
“Compared to Marco, I lose slightly in almost all corners. When you look at the data, you see that he does everything right, but there is a quarter difference in the end. Therefore, I need to focus too much on the details.”
The Team's Role
Martin suggested that the team could help him. He stated that with team support, everything would become easier and he could get closer to the top positions.
“If the team can help me a little, everything will be easier and I can get closer to the top.”
The Effect of Experience
Jorge Martin indicated that one reason for his increased difficulty in qualifying laps this season was that he had not been able to complete enough laps with the motorcycle when arriving at new circuits. The Aprilia rider said that he could push the motorcycle even when he was not 100% physically ready, but he now acts more cautiously regarding risk. He stated that this decision was taken after experiencing these situations.
“Some circuits are very different from last year. When I arrive at a track and it is time to push 100%, I still feel a lack of laps.”
Martin believes he can compete in the front group when he feels completely confident about the motorcycle and sees everything clearly. However, when that confidence is not present, he prefers not to take unnecessary risks, finish the race, and utilize Sunday's chance.
“When I understand everything clearly and I have this confidence, I know I can be in the front. Otherwise, I prefer not to take risks, finish the race, and use my Sunday chance.”
Martin stated that the experiences he has had have made him a calmer and more mature rider. He said that the things he learned through these experiences are more peaceful.
“Everything I have experienced has made me mature. It has made me calmer. The things I have learned through these experiences are peaceful.”
