In the sprint race, Alexander Dunne started from pole position and maintained the lead in the first part of the race. His teammate Martinius Stenshorne took second place. Dino Beganovic secured third place by showing a strong performance.
Pre-Race Developments
A significant development occurred before the race. Sebastián Montoya could not start the race after spinning during the practice lap before the qualifying lap. Dunne maintained the lead at the start, while Stenshorne solidified his position ahead of drivers such as Victor Martins, Rafael Villagómez, Mari Boya, and Joshua Dürksen. After the first laps, Dunne maintained his lead by approximately 1.1 seconds ahead of Stenshorne.
Safety Car and Race Changes
Mandatory pit stops began on lap seven of the race. As Campos Racing pitted Nikola Tsolov first, the slow pit stop of the Bulgarian driver caused a significant loss of time in the championship fight. In the same stint, Câmara overtook León and moved to third place. Following the pit stops, the race balance changed with the introduction of the safety car. As Mari Boya remained on track, the safety car entered the track, and leaders Dunne and Câmara also carried out their mandatory pit stops.
When the race resumed, Goethe held the lead as he did not pit. Dunne moved to second place while Beganovic and Stenshorne quickly climbed up. Stenshorne overtook Beganovic by making a successful move from the inside line on the third corner, moving to second place. However, the race was interrupted shortly thereafter. Following a multi-car accident involving Dürksen, Miyata, Shields, Van Hoepen, Bennett, Villagómez, and Tsolov on the third corner, the red flag was shown. As cars remained on track, the cars that had completed laps were sent back to the rear of the pack.
Results and Podium Ranking
The race restarted with a green flag start. While Goethe maintained the lead, Dunne immediately moved into second place. Beganovic overtook Herta to rise to third place. Stenshorne and León also ranked among the drivers who gained positions after the restart. In the final part of the race, Dunne used the DRS advantage to overtake Goethe in the first corner and regained the lead. Stenshorne, driving for Rodin Motorsport, made a strong move to pass Beganovic and move to second place. Following Goethe's overtake on the third corner, Stenshorne, Beganovic, León, and Câmara improved their positions. Dunne distanced himself from his competitors, widening the gap to 3.6 seconds. In the final laps, Stenshorne secured second place, while Beganovic and León contested third place. Câmara maintained pressure for the final podium spot. Alexander Dunne, who crossed the finish line first after the checkered flag, won the race for Rodin Motorsport. Martinius Stenshorne finished second, Dino Beganovic third, while Câmara finished fourth in the race that lasted until the final corners, and León finished fifth. Minì, Bilinski, Villagómez, Yamakoshi, and Maini were in the top 10. The second main race of the Baku weekend in FIA Formula 2 will take place tomorrow morning at 11:00 local time.
