National athlete Can Öncü sealed an unforgettable WorldSSP victory with Pata [Yamaha] Ten Kate Racing at Magny-Cours. Starting from 13th place, Can Öncü steadily climbed, entering a major victory pursuit with Roberto Garcia in the second part of the race. Taking the lead in the final laps, Öncü secured the checkered flag in first place with the fastest lap time of 1:40.237, earning the season's first victory.

WorldSSP Statistics

Can Öncü's victory is significant as it makes him the seventh driver to win a race in the 2026 season. No more than this number of different victories had been achieved in a single season in WorldSSP since 2008. Furthermore, Can Öncü has reached a significant statistic by equaling the number of WorldSSP victories in his career with Sam Lowes, Yari Montella, and Valentin Debise.

Race Results

The other race results were also noteworthy. Roberto Garcia achieved the second place, securing his best result in WorldSSP in his career. Garcia's second place brought the second podium for GMT94 Yamaha, marking Yamaha's 300th podium in WorldSSP history. Valentin Debise completed the final step of the podium as third in his home race. Championship leader Albert Arenas retired after crashing into Jeremy Alcoba during the third lap of the race. Arenas's situation will be reassessed before the Sunday morning Warm Up. With Arenas's retirement, Valentin Debise reduced the championship gap by 66 points, while Can Öncü's victory elevated him to third place in the standings. Jaume Masia finished tenth, dropping him in the championship standings.
